China Minmetals Completes Kinsevere Mine Expansion in the DRC
November 08, 2024
Recently, China Minmetals' subsidiary MMG announced its first batch of copper cathodes produced from sulfide ore at the Kinsevere mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking the successful launch of its expansion project. This major project, which extends Kinsevere’s operational life to at least 2035, leverages both existing sulfide ore reserves and newly explored resources in the region.
At the heart of this project is an advanced sulfide ore processing system featuring modules for sulfide ore and mixed ore concentration, along with acid roasting. One standout component is a large-scale copper-cobalt roaster, which at 130 square meters, ranks as one of the world’s largest single-series roasters. This advanced roaster transforms copper-cobalt concentrates into semi-sulfurized calcine for hydrometallurgical production, while a cutting-edge gas recovery system captures sulfur dioxide emissions for conversion into sulfuric acid, vital for the leaching process.
Supporting Operations with High-Quality Wear-Resistant Components from Zigong Tianyi Industry
Integral to the Kinsevere mine’s expansion success are the high-performance wear-resistant parts manufactured by Zigong Tianyi Industry, a leading supplier of robust industrial components for VSI spare parts and HPGR wear aprts. Zigong Tianyi Industry provides wear-resistant parts(such as vsi Distributor Plate...) tailored for machinery like vertical impact crushers and high-pressure grinding rolls, essential for maintaining high productivity and reliability in harsh mining environments.
Zigong Tianyi’s products are specifically engineered for durability, enhancing the lifespan of core machinery used in ore crushing and processing. These parts, developed to withstand intense operational pressures, contribute significantly to reducing downtime and maximizing output, aligning with the expansion project's objectives to streamline production and increase efficiency.
The Kinsevere mine project, initiated in March 2022, represents a collaborative effort. A specialized global team from MMG worked tirelessly for nearly 30 months, successfully commissioning the sulfide ore processing system by July 2024 and igniting the acid roasting system in mid-September. Over the coming months, the MMG team will focus on integrating these systems into existing facilities, gradually elevating the copper production capacity to its target output.
