The failures of roller presses, regardless of the system in which they operate, can be classified into process failures and equipment failures.
Common Process Failures and Solutions
The roller press must be viewed as an operating device within the framework of the entire process system. Only when other equipment and on-site facilities in the entire system are operating properly and can meet the ideal requirements of the roller press, can the roller press satisfactorily perform its indispensable function. Therefore, besides failures caused by defects in the roller press itself, the integrity of other system process equipment and the condition of raw materials are also key factors that affect the normal operation of the roller press. These factors mainly include:
- 1. Particle Size of the Material
Each specification of roller press specifies the feed particle size of the material. If the feed particle size exceeds the usable range, it will bring great harm to the lifetime, use, and maintenance of the roller press. If the feed particle size is too large, it will cause uncontrollable gap between the two rollers of the roller press, resulting in a decline in the quality of the roller press product, increased vibration of the roller press, shortened lifetime of the reducer and main bearing, and even frequent shutdowns of the roller press, making normal production impossible. If the feed particle size is too large, it will cause uneven force distribution along the length of the rollers, and long-term use can cause abnormal damage to the roller surface. If the feed particle size is too small and there is too much fine powder, it will result in a smaller gap between the two rollers of the roller press, increased circulating load, reduced efficiency of the roller press, and accelerated wear of the roller surface.
- 2. Moisture Content of the Material
Based on the characteristics of the material it is rolling, each roller press basically specifies the moisture content of the material entering the roller press. Otherwise, it may cause problems such as difficulty in dispersing the material cake, reduced output, and excessive moisture content in the product. If hot air at a higher temperature is used to dry the material, it may cause the problem of excessively high temperature entering the roller press.
- 3. Temperature of the Material
The temperature of the material entering the roller press must not exceed the allowable range of the equipment. Otherwise, it will cause the temperature of the entire roller system to rise, thereby affecting the lubrication of the main roller bearing of the roller press, reducing the lifetime of the main bearing, and intensifying the wear of the roller surface and other wear-resistant parts of the roller press.
